My kids are squarely in the nightlight stage -- old enough to sleep alone, old enough to hit the bathroom themselves at 3 AM, but not beyond waking me up when they need to go anyway. So I definitely get excited when I find creative nightlight designs like this one, spotted at Land of Nod. This Candela style rocket ship nightlight by OXO looks like something my girls would adore. Keep it charged in the base, and then when you lift it out, the LED glows for up to 8 hours -- no replacement bulbs needed. All you have to do is tell your kids this rocket is programmed on a strict course between their own bed and the bathroom.
