Android plays catch up with its app market on Amazon
If you're an Android user, you can do a happy dance today because our prayers have been answered--Amazon just launched a brand new marketplace just for Android apps. No more iTunes envy! Or, sort of. The Amazon Appstore for Android is a dedicated online resource for anything and everything Android-app related. In true Amazon-style, they feature apps by category, like Music, Productivity, Games, Entertainment and Social Networking. You can also preview apps by price, rating, bestsellers and more. Currently, the Appstore has about 3,800 apps, with many more on the way. We know it doesn't come close to the 350,000 in iTunes, but hey, Rome wasn't built in a day either. It's catching up. One thing we're looking forward to seeing--whether Apple smacks them down for the use of the term "app store." Or rather, how hard they smack them down. In any case, this is a good day to hit the new Amazon Appstore. To commemorate its launch, Amazon is giving away a paid app for free every day for an indeterminate amount of time. In other words, take advantage of it now. Today's free app? Angry Birds. Can't think of a better way to celebrate. -Jeana Check out the new Amazon Appstore for Android by installing it on your device following these instructions.
